Pregnancy and birth are life-changing events to be sure, but there is more than just the birth of the baby to prepare for. If you are planning to breastfeed your baby, then it is necessary to prepare for that as well. Unfortunately many women are ill-informed about what to expect during their breastfeeding experience. Although breastfeeding is the most natural way to feed your baby, it does not always come naturally and there is much to learn before you begin.
There is so much to tell you about this subject. I think it would be best to break it up into several posts and give you everything you need to know to get a great start to your journey as a breastfeeding mother. I’ll be covering all of these subjects over the next several posts:
- Benefits to the mother
- Benefits to the baby
- The value of breastmilk
- The breastfeeding mother’s needs
- Breastfeeding techniques
- Demand Feeding
- Breastfeeding “trouble shooting” and natural remedies
Unbound Birth can now be purchased at the new power price of $2.99! You can find it at the Unbound Birth Store.

No, it doesn’t always come naturally. I discovered this myself when our daughter was born. I just figured it would be easy, and natural. Natural it was, but easy it wasn’t. My daughter was 3 weeks early and extremely jaundice. The doctors were concerned with her rapid weight loss, considering she was only 5 pounds when she was born, I was too. When a baby has jaundice, the best way to lower the bilirubin count is by feeding, unfortunately my milk had not yet come in, therefore I was forced to supplement with formula. Although it was the best thing for my daughter at the time, supplementing had a huge impact on my milk production later on, something the doctors failed to inform me of. It was a struggle, but I continued to breastfeed for as long as possible. Although I was never able to breastfeed exclusively, I feel blessed to have been able to do it all.
There is a lack of information out there, and I hate that I wasn’t prepared when my daughter was born. I will be for Baby #2 though, nothing will stop me!
